Import

Lightning-fast imports from your hard drives and cameras. FlamingoHD will copy in content from your camera, but only link to content from your hard drives (this can be controlled in the Preferences). Importing from other hard drives is remarkably fast.

Quick Preview

Whenever you start off an Import, the contents of your Camera or File System area will be quickly displayed on the screen. From thos screen you can just Import the content that you select, or Import everything.

Batch Importing

When you have a whole lot of content spread across many folders you can use the Batch Import. Batch Import starts from the folder that you give it and imports all supported content types that it finds. Content is then added to Events named according to the Folder it was found in.

Fast Camera Imports

As soon as you plug in your camera, FlamingoHD automatically detects it and displays its contents. FlamingoHD knows what you have already imported from the camera so will only display content that it does not yet hold.

FlamingoHD does not convert footage as it copies it from your camera. This gives you imports that will go as fast as your camera can copy files onto your hard drive.

Even Faster File Imports

When importing content from your file system, FlamingoHD will only link to the content, not copy it in (although this can be changed in the Preferences). Importing from an existinging file system is super-fast!

Supports all Cameras!

FlamingoHD supports all modern camera types. This includes high-end AVCHD cameras through to simple point-and-click digital still cameras. iPhone and the new iPod Nano Video are also supported.

Native Storage

FlamingoHD stores your imported movies in their original format. This gives you fast imports and a small library to manage. For AVCHD especially, converted videos take up over 10x the space of the originals.

Save Money

The AVCHD video format is very highly compressed. If you rely on the in-built Apple converters from iMovie and Final Cut you will end up with converted video 10 times the size of the originals. No matter how much disk space you have, this process will eventually cost you money that you don't need to spend. More storage means more money and more chance of having a hard drive fail on you.

Use FlamingoHD, save your money and keep your movies in their compressed, original form and only convert them when you are ready to edit.

Preserve Originals

Whatever video or image formats you use, FlamingoHD will preserve the originals. We are bound to see more native AVCHD editing applications in the future as computers become more powerful. With FlamingoHD your original footage will be preserved so that you can take advantage of new technologies as they are released.

Browse

Browse your clips using the handy Filmstrip view. By displaying many Filmstrips on the screen at once, FlamingoHD allows you to quickly browse through a huge number of movies very quickly.

Filmstrip View

FlamingoHD has been built to provide a great way to browse your movies - Filmstrip View. This view lets you see keyframes of your movies laid out across the screen. The longer the movie, the more keyframes you see.

Poster View

Poster View is the normal way of browsing your Library. Using the tried and tested thumbnail approach, you can quickly see the first video frame, or images in your Library.

Organise

Organise your movies, images and music into Events and Projects, ready to edit. When you are ready to edit, you can send a project to your favourite editor.

Events

Events are created automatically as you Import content into FlamingoHD. The idea is that you manage your content according to Events that occurred.

When importing from your camera, your content is automatically split into separate Events if the content spans more than one day.

Preference settings are provided to control how Auto-splitting behaves.

Projects

When you are getting ready to edit or just Export some content from FlamingoHD, its a good idea to set up a project. Projects can contain content from any Event in your Library. Like Events, Projects can contain video, images and audio - everything you need to get started on a video production masterpiece!

Once your Project is set up you can easily send it to your Editor, containing all the content that you set up in FlamingoHD.

Update

Update your titles, descriptions and other meta data. Each media item can have its Title, Date Acquired and Notes updated.

Titles

The original title of you content will be set to the filename. You can edit this in FlamingoHD to be something more meaningful to you, and something that you might want to search on later.

Notes

Every content item can have its Notes updated with up to 255 characters. All text in the Notes field will be available for searching in an upcoming release.

Dates

During the Import process, each content item has it's Date set to the file creation date on the camera/filesystem. This works fine when you are importing from a camera, but when you import from a filesystem, sometimes the dates are not right. With FlamingoHD you can easily correct the Date Acquired to match the real date of the event.

Text Search

FlamingoHD allows you to search by Text across the Title and Description fields of all movies, images and audio files. You can quickly search across the whole library, or within Events and Projects.

Date Search

FlamingoHD allows you to search by date in a similar way to the Text search. You can search for a specific date or across a date range. The FlamingoHD date search works against the Date Taken data held against each media item.

Export*

Send your projects to iMovie or other Editors, ready to edit. FlamingoHD supports not only video, but image and music files as well. This helps you to organise all the content that you need for that project (e.g. a song for the soundtrack, still images and video) then send it to your editor with a single click.

Integrated

FlamingoHD is integrated with VoltaicHD and RevolverHD for simple conversions and high definition disk burning.

Simple

Once you have set up your content in a Project or Event, you can send it to your editor with a single click. FlamingoHD will copy your content into a new project area on your editor and kick off a batch conversion using VoltaicHD if you have any AVCHD movies. Once the conversion is done you are ready to go!

Final Cut

FlamingoHD is the perfect content management companion to Final Cut Express and Final Cut Pro. Import and organise your content using FlamingoHD then preview using FlamingoHD's Filmstrip view. Once you have decided which movies you want to bring into your Final Cut project its a single click action to send to Final Cut.
